Annual Meeting and election of new board members and officers
(Bios of board member candidates)
Location: Woodend Mansion
Date/Time: Thursday, October 24, 6-9 p.m.
Presenter: Jennifer Sevin (Jennifer's Bio)
Title: Salamanders: the hidden jewels of Appalachia
Our backyard is host to the world's greatest diversity of salamanders; their combined mass surpasses that of most animals in the region. Yet, we often do not see them, and in some cases, we know very little about them.
Join Jennifer Sevin from the Smithsonian Institution as she brings to our attention the hidden jewels of the Appalachian Mountains. She will share with us why salamanders are so unique, what is threatening them and the findings of her latest research on the endangered Shenandoah salamander.
With 2014 being the Year of the Salamander, Jennifer will provide some suggestions on how we can all be involved in conserving these amazing creatures.
Well Dunn Catering, one of DC's premier cateters, is donating a light dinner for the event.
A special thanks to Ikona Photography for donating their services and to American Plant for donating the wishing tree.
ANS members, friends, and family are all welcome. Please RSVP to this free event by contacting Carol Hayes (firstname.lastname@example.org or 301-652-9188 x10).
